Svampen je ticka jako trivs i gammal barrskog, på barrträds rötter i på murkna trädstammar. Den har påträffats i Mellaneuropa, Nordamerika i Mellanöstern. Sommaren 2017 påträffades ett exemplar på Boskär i Åbolands skärgård.^[15]^[16]
